Evaluation of Avatar One and Two

Evaluation

Avatar 2- Before & After

Avatar 1 - Before & After

I feel I had made these avatars partly right, and partly wrong. With the first avatar I created, I felt I had made it correctly, but I had done this wrong as I had taken to much time focused on this avatar when I should have been splitting time equally between the two avatars. I think I have made my first avatar look fierce and aggressive, and I did not need to change the background as it was already a desert-like setting. I did this partly wrong as I could have spent time outlining the masks I had made, and made sure they were in the correct position. With the second avatar, I spent less time working on it, which was a wrong decision I made. If I had spent less time on my first avatar and more on my second avatar, the second avatar could have been improved and have adjustments. I think I created my second avatar correctly, as I have made most layers with masks, and I have made my avatar look fierce and scary. I also feel that I have done this assignment a little wrongly, as I have not been posting on my blog three times a week, which I will improve on next time.

I do think I went mostly well though, as I am happy with the outcome of both avatars, and feel I have satisfied both emotions effectively. I did this by changing things in my personality profile, to suit the avatar more and also by thinking of colours which represent certain colours, and skin tones. Such as the harsh skin made a huge difference on making the avatars look tougher, as without the harsh skin, they look merely different from normal skin.

If I could do this assignment again, there are a numerous amount of things which I would do differently. Firstly, I would spent an equal amount of time on both avatars. This would improve the quality of the second avatar, without me having to be stressed about completing it with a shorter amount of time. Also, I would be certain to accomplish three blogs each week, so I could be in date with my blogs, and not have to do many of blogs in one night. This would also teach me to be more organised. Finally, I would spent a little more time on finalising the quality of the masking done. This would make sure that there were no cracks, or lines in places that they were not meant to be. It would also make the whole avatar look and feel more accomplished and realistic, as there would be nothing out of order.

Hair and background of my Second Avatar

After the harsh skin was added, I put cracks on my avatars lips, and hair. I put cracks on the lips as if you are in the sun for a long period of time, your lips become dry. I find this to be small but important, to distinguish that she has been damaged by the suns rays. I did this the same way as I did the cracks on her skin, except I changed the lighting. I also put cracks on my avatars hair. This is more a symbol, that her hair is dry, and damaged. This element also helps us to understand she has been living in the sun for a long period of time. Finally, I added the background to the picture. I chose the dessert at sunset/night, as the emotion I had chosen was based on night. I had said that at night, they go hunting and therefore have red, bloodthirsty eyes and they are large for twenty-twenty vision. They are also more fierce at night, and more aggressive. This picture demonstrates to us that they setting is at night, and also creates a dark mood.

Colour of eyes and skin of my Second Avatar

Secondly, I made my avatars eyes red, which informs me and the viewers that she is angry. I did this by duplicating the original layer and masking out everything apart from the eye. U then adjusted the hue and saturation to make the eyes red. I did this to make her look more angry and aggressive. I then added skin, and harsh skin. I added skin as she lives in the dessert, so the sun affected her skin by leaving dessert cracks. It also shows she is rough. I then added harsh skin to make my avatar look even more fierce. I added both skins by finding a picture of some cracks, duplicating it multiple times and covering them over the skin I want. I then merge the layers by holding shift and clicking the layers, then right clicking and pressing merge layers. I then create a mask and mask out everything not covering the skin wanted, and also I made sure you could not see the joining lines of each picture.

The eyes, mouth and eyebrows on my Second Avatar

The photo to the left was the original picture, although I had liquifyed the eyebrows and mouth to make look the girl look more angry. I did this by simply dragging down the eyebrows, slowly making it look natural, and I also did the same with the corners of the mouth. I did this as I said in my Avatars personality profile that she had an aggressive personality. I also made the eyes bigger, by taking away everything but the eyes, and pressing command + t. This made me have the option of dragging her eyes bigger. This is as in her personality profile it said that their eyes go bigger at night, and this picture will soon have a background of the dessert at night.

Final Picture of Avatar One

This was the final layer that I added onto my avatar. I put dry mud patterns on top of her hair to symbolise that her hair is dried out and hard. Also, because she lives in a sunny and hot area, the sun has damaged her hair. I did this by selecting an image from the internet and copying and pasting it various of times to cover all of the hair. I then merged all of the layers into one. After this, I created a mask and made the opacity of the picture lower, so it looks like her hair is actually very dry. I masked out every thing but the hair, so there was no prints on the skin. The hair pattern accidentally covered some skin such as a section of her face. But after thinking this over, I decided to keep these prints as it looks 'natural', and makes her look more fierce and tougher. This was my final image.

Green eyes on Avatar One!

My creation now has green eyes! I did this by duplicating the original layer of the picture, and add a mask. I masked out everything apart from the iris and pupil of the eyes. I then used hue and saturation to change the colour into green. I then put the layer on top of the current layers, so that the new green eyes appeared. To polish the eyes off, I had a final masking adjustment to make sure it was almost perfect. Then Finally, I used the brush tool and painted a small black dot to resemble the pupils, as the green colouring wiped out the previous pupils.

I made her eyes green as I stated in my personality profile that the "SunTrek" Race, eat mostly home grown vegetation, which makes her eyes go green. Her eyes are also green as my created race are mostly active in the night, so green eyes makes it easier for the "SunTrek" Race, to see and hunt at night.

Lip Cracks on Avatar One!

Now that I am happy with the effect of the skin on the person, I have added smaller and more defined cracks onto her lips. I did this I said in the personality profile that she living in the dessert, being more exposed to the sunlight and heat. Due to this, she has many cracks pressed in her skin. But I thought that she should have smaller and detailed cracks for her lips, so it exaggerates and makes it clear that she has been obviously damaged by the sun.

Avatar One with Skin

The first thing I did when I had found the perfect picture, was to find dessert-like cracks for the woman's skin. I found the cracks which I thought suited the emotion, And copied and pasted many of them onto different layers. I then merged all of the layers together and created a mask, which I then painted out the cracks until they were only on the skin. I put "Soft light" on the cracks, to make it look like the cracks were dented into her skin. I made her have cracks as she lives out in the dessert, which made the sun damage her skin, causing her skin to dry out and cracks to appear.

Avatar One - Original Picture

I chose this picture to make an avatar, as the women looks almost as I described in my personality file. I said that the girl had tanned skin, Brown hair and was living in a war-based community. Jessica Alba (The women on the original picture) Demonstrates this perfectly. Her eyebrows are slightly frowning, and her lips are not smiling nor frowning. This picture creates a fierce look, which is what I am looking for in my avatar. Although, Her emotion does not look angry, just as if she is aggressive. I was looking for this type of picture as I said that my avatar was aggressive and fierce to all members outside her community, and even a little to those within society.
